If you are going to install new rug and even you find your padding in good condition but you must replace your old padding to avail carpet warranty from manufacturer. Because some manufacturers don’t offer and honor warranty if old padding is used. You don’t have much choice for sub floor padding. There are just two sizes available in the market

- 3/8 Inch

Padding is perfect choice for residential project. Quality padding increases life of your rug and you feel much relaxed and comfortable when you walk on under padded rug. Padding also insulates against cold and noise as well. Padding comes in couple of varieties to choose from

- Felt Rubber
- Sponge Rubber

The rule with both types of padding is heavier and better. There are some precautions for padding. Avoid using felt padding in high traffic areas and never ever use sponge padding over radiant heated floor.

Padding makes it hassle free to vacuum your rugs and adds insulation from sound and weather. Most significantly, pads reduce rug’s slip and slide. Without padding, small area rugs can be a very real safety hazard because they can’t lie at one place. Broad, feathery pads look fine, but dense pads are perfect. A cushiony pad basically increases wear on a rug by allowing heels to compress and grind the fibers. Many rugs are finished with fringe. Fringes are normally the first part of a rug to show wear. Be careful about vacuuming.
