The flat weave technique was used in the making of nomadic tents. Generally, it is believed that nomadic tribes produce area rugs to protect themselves from harsh weather condition in the region for the very first time. After that, with the passage of time, weaving techniques were adopted from other nations as well and people started to make rugs for their comfort.
Turkish nation is one of those who adopted weaving techniques afterwards. Kilims are produced in vast range of colours, pattern and sizes. They can be produced by using the composition of silk, wool and cotton. Whenever, you plan to purchase Turkish rug, then first of all, examine whether it is hand made or machine made. Hand made rugs are usually made of natural material like sheep wool or goat and camel’s hair. Many people think that hand made rugs are more useful and long lasting. It is true that they are more durable than synthetic or artificial rugs. They give warmth to your rooms and have better ability to inhale dust from room to keep air clean.
On the other hand, machine made rugs are mostly made of artificial material like polyester, nylon and cotton. Despite of low prices, they also have appreciable durability. Synthetic rugs are often more affordable than natural material made rugs. They also have high level of stain resistance ability as compared to natural material made rugs.
